How to Conduct a Free Teleconferencing
There are generally two common ways to make a
free teleconferencing, one is by using Skype, and the other one is by making a toll
free teleconferencing using non-geographic numbers (NGN).
Free Teleconference Call Using Skype
You’ve probably heard of Skype, a
conference call provider where you can make a
free teleconferencing through VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol). Connect your laptop or PC to an internet service provider with sufficient bandwidth, then using a headset you can make a conference call with a number of people
without paying a cent.
The quality of free teleconference using Skype is very relative unless you have a really stable internet connection. There are times when we get excellent call quality when the internet connection is not busy, but there are also times when the connection is so crowded that it is really not appropriate to make important
conference calls for business or to talk with a large number of people.
Free Teleconference Call Using Non-Geographic Numbers (NGN)
To make a free teleconferencing, the
audio conferencing participants need to dial into a non-geographic phone number, which is telephone number that doesn’t terminate at any fixed location. When you dial the number that usually starts with 1-800 (on the US), the telephone operator redirects your call to a real telephone number, but you won’t have any idea where the operator is located.
However, even though you call the 1-800 for free, someone has to pay the telephone operator for the
call cost. In this case, the
company who use this service pays the operator. So it’s not really free at all.
For small companies or individuals with moderate audio conferencing requirements, NGN based free teleconferencing service can be pretty useful. But I don’t think this type of service is suitable for larger business or organizations.
